First Nations Oil and Gas Management Initiative
What is the First Nations Oil and Gas and Moneys Management Act?
The First Nations Oil and Gas and Moneys Management Act (FNOGMMA) is federal legislation that provides First Nations with the option to manage their on-reserve oil and gas resources currently managed on their behalf by Canada. It also provides First Nations with the option to manage moneys currently held in trust for them by Canada. First Nations can choose to opt into either part of FNOGMMA, or both.
FNOGMMA was developed as a result of a collaborative effort by the federal government, Siksika Nation, Blood Tribe and White Bear First Nations. The content of FNOGMMA represents the ideas and principles proposed by these three First Nations and the Government of Canada.
