Dear Industry Partner:

RE: Industry Engagement Information Sessions -
Implementation of the Indian Oil and Gas Act, 2009 and Phase 1 regulations

Indian Oil and Gas Canada (IOGC) would like to invite you to attend one of the two engagement and information sessions on the Indian Oil and Gas Act, 2009 (IOGA, 2009) and proposed amendments to the Indian Oil and Gas Regulations, 1995 (proposed regulations). There will be two sessions held on November 7 & 8, 2018 from 8:30 am until 12:00 pm in the National Energy Board Hearing Room located at #210, 517 – 10 Avenue SW, Calgary. Each session is a standalone session and will consist of the same information with identical agendas.

The proposed regulations were pre-published in the Canada Gazette, Part I for an extended 90 day public comment period, ending on August 19, 2018. Notices were sent to all lease and permit holders inviting comments on the proposed regulations. Copies of the IOGA, 2009 can be found at www.laws.justice.gc.ca, and a copy of the proposed regulations can be found at www.gazette.ca under the May 19, 2018 publications link. It is anticipated that the IOGA, 2009 will come into force with the proposed regulations later this calendar year or early 2019.

The proposed regulations are intended as a first step in modernizing the oil and gas regime on First Nations reserve lands in Canada by enhancing transparency and efficiency measures while maintaining a certain level of involvement and flexibility for First Nations. These engagement sessions are intended to allow industry an opportunity for discussion and ask questions on the IOGA, 2009 and proposed regulations. IOGC will provide presentation materials in advance of the sessions for review and preparation.
